Episode 6.5.03 – NFL Draft Part 2
Yes, it’s true. We are back. We heard your emails, Facebook posts and tweets asking for a new show, so Steven and Jeff are back at it. The guys talk about the current lockout, although Steven begrudgingly does it, they discuss the release of Plaxico Burress and the teams that might be interested in him. Steven thinks he may land with the Jets, Cardinals, Seahawks or Eagles while Jeff thinks he may land with the Rams.
The guys finish going over the 1st round of the NFL Draft and give their thoughts on the final 18 picks of day one. Steven was really impressed with the Saints 1-2 combo punch of Cameron Jordan and Mark Ingram in the 1st Round and both guys still cannot get over the fact the Falcons gave up so much to move up for WR Julio Jones.
Steven makes a few side bets with Jeff over when the lockout will end and some promises to the Show Donors. Thank you!
Episode 6.5.02 – NFL Draft Recap Part 1
Steven and Jeff return home from New York City and get down to business. They do not have plenty of time to get through the whole draft, so they ended this show getting half way through the 1st round as they look at at every pick in the 1st round and talk about what they saw.
The guys agree that the four QBs taken in the first round, Cam Newton, Blaine Gabbart, Jake Locker and Christian Ponder might all have been reaches where they were taken, but in a quarterbacks league, it had to be done.
The guys talk about the city, Radio City Music Hall and seeing the Broadway Show Lombardi. The guys also play the five minute long interview with Dan Lauria, the actor playing Lombardi in the Broadway show.
Episode 6.5.01 – NFL Draft Preview
Just hours before the guys jump on a plane and head to New York for the NFL Draft, they take some time to do a quick new show. Steven and Jeff are excited about heading out to cover the draft and they discuss the current state of limbo the NFL currently finds itself in.
Jeff reads some of Judge Nelson’s 89 pages and feels happy that someone finally did something for us, the fans! Steven tried hard not to fall asleep, but did say that he could see where the league was coming from.
The guys also talked about some players like Chad Ochocinco saying he was done in Cincinnati. Albert Haynesworth made the news, this time for doing something naughty and making the Good ‘Ole Boy segment. All this, to start the limbo Season 6.5 of NFL Rants & Raves.
Episode 6.57 – 6th Annual RAVIES
It’s that time year again! Time for the big stars to come out and receive their prestigious RAVIES awards!
Steven and Jeff were turned down by a number of celebrities to host the RAVIES this year, and the only player available for the show was Eagles WR DeSean Jackson. Listen as Jackson receives one of the awards in tonights show.
Prior to the RAVIES, the guys talk about the state of the NFL and mention a months worth of Good Ole Boys! Yes, even a Cowboy made the list.
Episode 6.56 – State of the NFL
Steven and Jeff come out and talk about the state of the NFL, with the owners locking out the players and both sides bickering like school children. With the current “lock out”, the guys discuss what other shows they can come up with and Jeff suggests Box Office Rants and Raves but Steven quickly nixes that idea.
The guys then pick a side and argue their cases. Jeff takes on the side of the players, while Steven argues for the owners, unwillingly. Right now, it appears that the players really want to see the books, but that does not appear it is going to happen. Steven rants on both sides as they claim that they are doing it for us, the fans, which could be furthest from the truth.
Finally the guys talk about some players making news off the field. The guys have a new drop as they play, “Don’t be silly Adrian Peterson!” from the Motorola commercial. Both Steven and Jeff agree that Peterson’s and Reshard Mendenhall’s comments comparing the NFL and slavery is ridiculous!
Episode 6.55 – Super Bowl XLV Recap
After weeks of being away, the guys are back to finish off the season with a recap of Super Bowl XLV Recap. The guys share some stories from Dallas, TX including Radio Row fun, late nights and stuff left on the cutting room floor.
Once it is all sorted out, the guys will put up pictures, videos and interviews that they have not put up on the site just yet. The guys talk a little bit about NFL News, as Steven makes the CBA the first non-human entity HWMNBN. So the guys instead talk about some of the franchise tag players. The Eagles place the franchise tag on Michael Vick, ensuring Vick getting about $16 million payday next year, while surprise, surprise, the Chargers make WR Vincent Jackson their franchise player guaranteeing Jackson about $10 to $11 million. The guys also talk about all the options the 400 fans that did not get their seat at the Super Bowl are getting.
Steven and Jeff finish off the season by reliving Super Bowl XLV. Jeff does a Christina Aguilera impression by messing up the National Anthem, while Steven talks about the Mendenhall fumble that sealed the Steelers fate. Steven becomes the “Smartest Man Alive” as the Packers beat the Steelers 31-25 and cannot wait to punish Jeff. Who’s ready for that?
Episode 6.54 – Super Bowl Preview Part II
Steven and Jeff thought there was no way to top yesterday’s fun on Radio Row at Super Bowl 45… they were SO WRONG. The final day at the Media Center ends up being the best day of the week.
Sit down and enjoy visits by Colts Tight End, Dallas Clark (he showed us the scars from his wrist surgery); Sirius NFL’s, Pat Kirwan; legendary sack-master Kevin Carter; CBS Sports, Lesley Visser; three time Pro Bowl kicker, Nick Lowry; NFL Networks, Steve Wyche and Charles Davis have some fun kicking the paper football; and just when we thought it was time to call it a night ADAM SANDLER jumps into the fun!
Craziness, solid football analysis, and good times are in abundance as the big day in Big D is rapidly approaching.
Episode 6.53 – Super Bowl XLV Preview
WOW! Probably the wildest show in the history of NFL Rants & Raves. From Radio Row at Super Bowl XLV Media Center, Steven and Jeff have plenty of ups and downs throughout the day in Dallas, Texas as they continue to have players, coaches and celebrities to make a kick in paper football.
The guys are joined by former Bronco & 49er great Bill Romanowski, Falcons Head Coach Mike Smith, World Champion and Olympic gymnast Nastia Liukin (with an impromptu visit from Michael Strahan), and while waiting in futility for Super Model Brooklyn Decker, Vick “The Brick” Jacobs invades the quiet land of NFL Rants & Raves at the Sky Sports News Radio desk on Radio Row.
Besides a great visit from Danish listener and sports writer Claus, the one and only legendary Dan Patrick throws things over the top as he throws Jeff under the bus a couple of times. For anyone who was left out — we apologize. Too much for one day!
Finally the guys make their predictions for that little football game to be played on Sunday.
