The Good
The New York Football Giants!
What a way to honor their late, great owner Wellington T. Mara, who passed away on October 25th, by putting a beat down on the Washington Redskins, beating them 36-0. The Giants did it in all three phases of the ball.
The defense pitched a shut-out, holding the Redskin offense to 125 total yards. They shut down Clinton Portis, holding him to 9 yards rushing and the ‘Skins offense to 38 total rush yards, and the defense created 4 turnovers.
The offense was unstoppable all day. Tiki Barber rushed for 206 yards and 1 TD and even they raked up almost 400 total yards on offense.
On special teams, Jay Feely kicked 5 field goals to go along with his 3 extra points and the kicking and punting teams were solid.
With all the emotions running wild with the passing of their owner, the Giants stepped up big to take sole possession of first place in the tough NFC East.
The Bad
The Redskins offense!
One week after posting 52 points against the 49ers, the Redskins were unable to score a single point. Mark Brunell went 11-28 for an anemic 65 yards and 0 TDs with 1 INT. Santana Moss, who was having a great season, was limited to 34 yards on 4 catches, and Clinton Portis, who mocked the 49ers the previous week by scoring 3 TDs and rushing for 101 yards was all but eliminated in the game rushing for only 9 yards on 4 carries.
With games against the Eagles, Cowboys, Bucs, Chargers and Giants still left, the season can take a turn from good to bad for the Redskins.
The Ugly
The nightmare season for the Minnesota Vikings continues.
Just when you thought the Vikings were going to turn things around and make a run for the NFC North, Dante Culpepper goes down in the 1st quarter of the Vikings loss to the Carolina Panthers.
Vikings’ fans have had to endure the following major headlines this season:
Vikings lose in playoffs to Eagles 27-14
Mike Tice fined for scalping Super Bowl tickets
Randy Moss Traded to Oakland Raiders
Vikings sold to Wilf, and new owner vows to keep team in Minnesota
Onterio Smith out for the season for Wizzanator! scandal
Matt Birk out for the season with hip injury
Vikings start the season 1-4
Allegations of lewd sexual activity rock the Vikings annual cruise
and now,
Dante Culpepper out with season ending injury.
For a team many were saying would represent the NFC in Super Bowl XL, myself included, it’s over – stick a fork in them, they’re done!
6’1″, 250 lbs. How do you stack up, Jeff?
“Bear Cubs”? Nah. As much as I love the Cubs, I’d prefer to maintain the distinction.
But, if you decide to hold up with the Bear Cubs name, then you must, by default of the fact that they are first place in their division, call the other teams in the NFC North by the following names: Minnesota ViQueens, Green Bay Fudgepackers (I’ll accept “Smackers” as well), and Detroit Pussycats (or “Lionesses”).
And, here in the NFC North, we’ll take first place however we can get it.
Just start listening to your wife, Steven. She knows of what she speaks.
