Wild, wacky, Week 3 is in the books and the guys cover it all. Steven and Jeff start with some NFL News, as Jets WR Braylon Edwards gets arrested at 5:15am for a DWI, Steelers QB Dennis Dixon get surgery and is out indefinitely, and Saints RB Reggie Bush breaks his leg in the Monday Night Football game versus the 49ers and will miss at least six weeks. Plus Steven and Jeff debate their friendly wager on Randy Moss and Darrelle Revis.
The guys then cover the 16 games of Week 2, with the Bears, Bucs and Chiefs starting 2-0 while preseason favorites like the Vikings and Cowboys find themselves at 0-2. What a game on Monday Night Football as the Saints beat the 49ers 25-22 as time expires in the 4th quarter. Steven tells the 49ers, you cannot leave that much time on the clock when you face the Saints. Steven asks Jeff which team out the eight teams starting 2-0 do not belong. Steven also reminds Jeff that the past 5 Super Bowl Champs have not started the season 2-0.
Finally, Jeff is the smartest man alive as he did not buy into the Seahawks and took the Broncos and Denver won BIG!
The Skins actually blew a 17 point lead, as they led 27 – 10 before Houston began it’s comeback. I’m no Reed Doughty fan (he’s the db that was burned on the game tying TD catch), but the receiver made an incredible leaping catch (and he’s much taller than any Redskin secondary player). Doughty actually tried to swipe down on the ball, but Williams wisely brought the ball down with one hand so as to avoid it being swiped out. Agree with the assessment that the Skins had no business losing that game, but it may turn out that Houston is among the NFL’s elite and the Skins are still trying to find their way (lack of getting into the end zone, poor secondary coverage and lack of a running game are all concerns two weeks in, imo).
It was discussed at the very end of the show, but I think the 49ers played the end of the game correctly. Needing a 2 point conversion to tie, I think they needed to score with time left, so that had they not converted they would still have time to try an on sides kick to have another shot at winning. It worked out that they got the 2 point conversion and gave the Saints the time they needed to win, but had they run it down to the very end and not converted the 2 pt conversion, the result would have been the same. This way, if they don’t get the 2, the still have a shot at the on sides kick, and you have to hope your defense can keep the Saints from marching down the field.
Some technical problems with the podcast, could just be my computer when it tried to convert to MP3. But at around 20:21 there’s a weird thing with your voices where bits get repeated and it sounds like there’s 3 Jeffs. It only lasts 10 seconds but it happens again a bit later, at around 27:45 or so.
Anyway, loving the first half of the podcast, haven’t had a chance to listen to the 2nd half yet, but enjoyed it so far.
Harsh on the Ravens – although deservedly so. I think both of you will end up eating those words :) Time will tell. Great Podcast as always.
@NathanJS
I’m glad I’m not the only one that had this problem. Thought someone slipped something into my soda.
I think to make good picks for week 3 is nearly impossible because this season is so freaking wild…i can not say which team is a real playoff contender…nice show
greets from Ger.
Sorry Jeff, you need to take a relook at your fantasy team and winning the game….. afraid I won :P
And I see both points put forward regardin the Moss vs Revis bet and will vote on a null and void on it. So no-one wins.
And with the WR INT stats. Its something that even nfl.com try to bring in cause I got a minus fumble points for when Miles Austin caught and then dropped it. Normally that would be on Romo’s points but in my other league thats what happened.
And regards to London, on Sunday are we meeting in the Sports Cafe? Can we get a shout out about that and some thoughts?
Never done the Bonds meet up, but sounds like a laugh.
Hope the knee gets better Steven.
I haven’t listened to the whole podcast yet, it is good a always. Not sure I get the “no team has gone 2 – 0 and won the Super Bowl in the last 5 yrs” comment. Didn’t both the Colts and Saints win at least their first 14 games last year, and they were both in the Super Bowl. Am I misunderstanding the comment?
Haven’t listened but would suggest they mean 0 and 2.
Also, is anyone else having troubles getting the full podcast on the website. Itunes has the whole thing but on the website here I only get 40 mins of it
I thought about that, especially with Jeff saying, “Duh!” But, that would mean that Steven would essentially be saying that the Cowboys wouldn’t have much of a chance, and I doubt that. I also thought he might be saying that the teams that are currently 2 – 0 haven’t won a Super Bowl in the last five years, but again, the Saints would defy that logic since they won last year and are currently 2 – 0. It seems like a clear point Steven is trying to make, but I am just not quite sure I’m getting it!
Even if they did mean 0-2, they’d still be wrong. But then again, it’s very obvious this show has a Giant (pun intended) slant.
