Part 2 of the Post Draft Recap is here and Steven and jeff are set to share their opinions on what all the teams did in the NFC. However, since there was plenty of NFL News to talk about, the guys did not get to the NFC West, but they promise to talk about the Cardinals, 49ers, Rams and Seahawks Draft picks on the next show.
The guys start by talking about the latest workout craze on the Coasts, and soon to hit Zurich. The guys then talk about the retirements of Walter Jones and Jeff Feagles and whether Ben Roelithberger’s latest evaluation might land him at Steelers OTAs next month. Steven discusses why Leroy Hill might be out of a job, and the guys talk about why Brett Favre is waiting to have surgery on his ankle while Steven thinks head coach Brad Childress is delivering a line like actor Alec Baldwin.
Steven and Jeff finally get to the NFC East and evaluate the talent selected in the draft. Steven’s joy of the Cowboys drafting WR Dez Bryant was held in check because he did not think the Cowboys draft was real solid. The guys disagreed on the Giants draft, while liking what the Eagles did. Steven asks why the Panthers drafted QB Armanti Edwards in the third-round when they had just drafted QB Jimmy Clausen. Steven and Jeff both like the Packers picks and Steven agrees to call Detroit, the Lions, but will return to calling them “kitty-cats” if they start 0-4 next season. The guys also discuss the Redskins, Saints, Bears, Vikings, Falcons and Bucs.
“…the guys did not get to the NFC West…”
Is it not bad enough that east coast sports broadcasting incessantly pays less attention to west coast teams?
Suggestion:
From this day forward, NFL R and R reviews the NFL west coast to east coast.
You may be on to something there Gregory. Good suggestion!
However, we did say we will start the next show by covering the NFC West. We did not leave it out, we will just start a new show with it.
Despite Jeff’s warning that I “fast forward about five minutes or so” I listened to the analysis of the Skins draft, and I thought it was pretty accurate. Folks in DC are putting a positive spin on the lack of picks by claiming that Donavan McNabb substituted for our 2nd round pick and the defensive lineman from Kentucky, chosen in last year’s supplemental draft, was our 3rd pick. No idea if the Kentucky lineman will work out in the new defense, but time will tell.
As far as Williams versus Okung, I think just about everyone had Okung higher on the board than Williams, as Steven mentioned, but, also as Steven mentioned, Williams was in most people’s top ten on the draft board, and the #2 OL behind Okung. Work ethic was a factor I believe, although supposedly that shouldn’t be an issue. The thought is that Williams, in addition to being a better fit for Shanahan’s zone scheme, is that while Okung may have better upside than Williams, it is thought that Williams is closer to being ready to start on opening day. And one thing that Shan-Alla-Han (coach Shanahan and GM Bruce Allen) seem to be set on is putting a team on the field that they thing can be successful immediately, as opposed to the slow, rebuilding process that most assumed the Skins would try. Also, while the other pieces of the draft might have been less than impressive, the Skins have been signing offensive lineman, and other positions of need via free agency. I also still believe that Haynesworth may not be on the roster by the time training camp starts.
I read the comments about NFC West. I understand why you are dissapointed, by not having your team evaluated. However I would say its far better to open next show. If nothing else of important measures arises, you have the whole episode for yourself :)
Favre (hwmnbn): As for now he should be considered a Hwmnbn.
He is not a part of any team, hasnt signed anything or negotiated anything.
There is no sign of commitment between Favre and a team.
As soon its known that he is signing a deal, or is undergoing surgery, then theres a (possible) connection to the NFL.
Until then, let him rest and let ESPN and others do the daily news and Favrelivecam. I understand that other newsagencies are interested in Favre, let them spend the ressources until something actually happens
“Don’t belivethe Hype….”
I know I have been listening for a long time when I know what story is coming up next. The one about Steven in a fight and then having that kid believe he killed someone in high school, and used that to get that kid to do stuff for him.
Loving the Lions draft. Delighted with Suh who will start right away and fingers crossed by a cornerstone for the next 10 years. With Corey Williams being brought in this offseason hopefully he can show his Green Bay form of a few years ago and stuff up the middle.
Jahvid Best will hopefully replace Kevin Smith at the number 1 RB positon. Smith uses his mouth more than his football skills.
May the Schwartz be with you.
@jeremy – Agreed. I’ve been listening since Season 3 and I’ve heard that story before.
I really liked the idea of doing a show analyzing the draft for three years ago. All the current draft talk is all too much speculation for me. This is partly because it’s hard to judge how the players will transition to the Pros, and partly because we have so little info on why the teams chose who they did. I keep on hearing that the Colts always get low scores in the draft analyses (including this one), and yet they must have some pretty good players. How does that happen?
Is there any chance you could tell me when the next podcast will be as I am really looking forward to hearing what you guys thought of the rams draft.
Keep up the good work, your podcast is by far the best around
