“Well — isn’t that special!” A topsy turvy week of action has the Powerful Rankings machine in motion. Please note that there are only four (yes four) AFC teams to medal right now. They are the division leaders and they are certainly worthy of their ranking, but where is everyone else?? Anyone remember the not too distant past when the AFC so dominated the league?

Steelers are 2-3 and ranked 13th the Bills are 3-3 and ranked 25th not the mention the Saints (WTF?)… your rankings are whack!
Curious. SF drops to four after one loss? (Well, two, I suppose…) Atlanta deserves the top spot, I’d say, but Baltimore will slowly slide down the rankings with all their mounting injuries. (Or maybe quickly slide down?)
As for my Bills, good thing is they play the Titans this week at home. Tennessee is the only team to have given up *more* points than the Bills this year! Healthy RBs, home field, defensively generous explosion … should mean Offensive Explosion! :)
PS… you know that the FG to win in Buf/AZ was blocked, right? (not a miss…)
PPS… I feel like I usually comment on what seems *not* right here, but you do a good job. Always look forward to your weekly rankings. They’re usually at least entertaining. :)
Kudos on getting the NFC West more into the positions they’ve earned!
You say 4 medal teams… But then you put the Ravens, Texans, Broncos, Patriots, and Steelers all with medals. That be AFC teams.
OMG! Jeff made a mistake!
Minnesota and he Redskins JUST played. How are the Vikings ranked higher?
There’s been a lot of talk of Parity this week, but I think what actually happening is the NFC is much better than the AFC which has messed up the records a bit.
For example, the Houston Texans beat 5 average to poor AFC teams (Miami, Jacksonville, Denver, Tennessee, and New York Jets) in there 5-0 start to the season. Green Bay on the other hand played 4 NFC teams in there first 5 where they went 2-3.
There is a chance if they’d swapped records, the Packers would have come into week 6 5–0 Arron Rodgers would be in MVP talk and there beat down on the Texans wouldn’t have been such a shock.
Decent rankings considering they’re coming from someone that went. 5/14 this week. ;)
Giants deserve a lift but wouldn’t put them that high based on one (more or less) good performance.
Baltimore seem high. Too many teams in medal positions, hardly anyone has shown consistency. Pittsburgh and Detroit would drop out for me. And more moss. Wow a lot of teams suck…
Has the playing field been levelled too much? Equality is bringing mediocrity, not a meritocracy?
Great read as ever Jeff – well I’m lying at the very bottom of the moss, not even the nice lush part of the moss thanks to our inept bunch of QBs…time to bring out ‘Shkwapplesshushles’ or ‘Bumblebee Tuna’……this may be misplaced, but I’m hoping now our season is over we can really stink the place out and lose properly so can pick towards the top of the draft. We always pick in the top 10, but we need to do it properly, like Indianapolis did, pick at the top…..we need to go back that far to go forward. If we’re going to lose let’s do it properly!!
Besides the NY Giants, which I believe should be in second, I’m pretty much in agreeance with you this week Mr. Ellis. I also promise to check out your Powerful Rankings more often after you mentioned on the podcast that “nobody views my Powerful Rankings” LOL
