It appears that the gap between the elite and the not elite has grown as there are fewer medal teams. It’s time for the teams on the outside to step up and show they have what it takes to be contenders. With all due respect to the 49ers, the fastest risers, I still do not believe they are as good as their record indicates. Jets fall 9 spots after their third straight loss, while the Colts visit the bottom again.

Jeff, your PITT comment needs corrected (i think it was last week’s Buffalo comment).
@ David, my bad. It has been corrected.
SF – I think you mean “pedal to the metal” with metal as in the floor board of a car not mettle as in fortitude. Although that may be one of those phrases like “tough row/road to hoe” which different people think means different things. I am pretty sure there is no such word as “peddal” though.
NYG – I think you need one more exclamation…”At Home?!?”. I could see the Jeckyll and Hyde G-men losing in Seattle, but at home is the shocking part.
Denver – Lullaby has two “els”.
@DCSportsfan25 – jeez Ed, sounds like you need to get off the field and into the classroom and teach English. You know how Jeff is, he’s funny, and not HaHa, funny – weird.
Jeff, yes I did Enjoy last season a lot. And I am worried about the decline of my beloved Bears D. They let other teams dictate the flow of the game, and it should be the other way around
@Steven – yeah, I know I can be hyper-critical at times (especially when it comes to writing), but I am looking out for you guys. As you begin to reach a larger audience through your Sky Sports affiliation your work, in print as well as your audio/video offerings, will become more closely scrutinized. While those of us who know you are aware of your range of knowledge, simple misspellings or misplaced phrases may lead someone new to your work to question your journalistic skills.
As a long time listener and supporter, I’m with Ed. I know nothing of podcasting, not much of football (see my picks!), but I do know, through my professional life, something about online content. This site has to be your shop window, it needs to portray you and your work in the best possible light. Particularly as you have not been backward at ripping into other professional broadcasters for mistakes on their sites in the past. I know you have put a lot of work into the new site, but it doesn’t work to your best advantage at the moment, to my mind. Please take this as constructive criticism, I really want you guys to succeed.
@Ed – you missed one. Jeff may have dreamed or dreamt, he never dremed :-)
All well intentioned critiques are appreciated. End of story. We need you guys to get our backs since it is just the two of us, that damned clock that only gives us 24 hours a day, and a lot to do. We seldom check each other’s work because too busy and are frequently doing our homework at very strange hours. Thanks for the help.
Jeff
Although I’m happy with the 49ers climb up your rankings, I still have to take issue with your comment at the top about them not being as good as there record. You can only beat what’s in front of you and the confidence of a few wins can only be good. From the schedule I can see them getting another six wins, that would be a winning 10 and 6 record. Not bad for and team and division that you scoffed and were convinced would be won with a losing record. Reminds me of all the fuss when the Cowboys were staging the Superbowl and everyone was convinced they would be the first team to be at hone for the game.
I’m not deluded and I know the 49ers won’t win anything this year but I do believe they have taken a major step forward.
One more thing, are the Colts a shoe in to get Peytons successor in next years draft?
Jeremy
@Jeremy,
From where I sit, I don’t think you’d be deluded at all to expect good things from the 49ers this season. They appear to be far and away the best team in the NFC West this year so winning that division seems likely at this point. Once they win the division they get a home playoff game, and as Seattle showed, that can be a huge advantage. Once you get a playoff win under your belt, you are one of the last 4 remaining conference teams and from there, anything can happen. Just ask the Arizona Cardinals of few years ago.
