As the regular season approaches the 1/4 pole, the guys get a little crazy with the Week 4 preview. Jeff takes some time to reminisce about longer NFL Rants & Raves shows, but then buckles down to talk about the 16 games in Week 4. In the news, the guys talk about QB Michael Vick getting back under center with some swelling still in his right hand, plus the guys discuss WR Kenny Britt out for the season with.
Once again, the guys agree on 12 games in Week 4. Steven is shocked to find out that Jeff is taking the Cowboys over the Lions and the Browns over the Titans, two games Steven was certain they would disagree on. In the four games they differ on, Steven has the four road teams while Jeff says he is happy with his home picks of the Rams, Cardinals, Texans and Bucs.
Finally, with Steven being the smartest man alive, Jeff gets to pick the challenge game, and he quickly makes the Colts/Bucs game the Week 4 challenge. Steven feels the Colts will finally get their first win on Monday Night Football.
So the dates thing:
If you’re saying the words, it doesn’t matter what order you say them – “October the twenty-second” is every bit as clear as “The twenty-second of October”, so long as you say the name of the month there’s no ambiguity.
It’s when you’re writing numbers down that it becomes an issue. Most of the world uses one of two date formats:
DD / MM / YYYY – the smallest unit of time to the largest, this is the format that your UK listeners are harping on at you to use.
YYYY / MM / DD – the largest unit of time to the smallest, arguably better than the above because you can sort a list of dates easily.
The US and Belize are different. They go from the middle to the smallest to the largest unit of time, this is really confusing if read by anyone used to the more common small/middle/large system, since to such a person 02/05/2012 reads as “The second of May, 2012”.
Gentlemen,
I listen to a lot of ESPN radio, where Chris Carter spoke of his top 5 receivers. Unfortunately, he did not forget Megatron and he has defended his analysis multiple times. Shocking? Yep.
Mark me down as another who misses the old Rants & Raves. I’m still listening and I wish you every success, although I can’t begin to understand how you guys are making money! I’m sure you did your audience and competition analysis, but to me you have lost your USP and a lot of the essence of the show.
Another thing I miss is the posting of your picks (and the season running score) on the homepage. You still make a big thing of being the best in the picking business, so really that should be in your shop window :-) You are wasting a lot of prime real estate on big icons shows whose time has passed….
Stephen didnt you say you were gonna get a cam newton tat on your butt? :P
