Preseason Week 1 is in the books and Steven and Jeff discuss the rule changes that have everyone up in arms. The Denver Broncos have bigger problems than their QB controversy as starting defensive tackle Marcus Thomas has a strained pectoral muscle and the other starting defensive tackle Ty Warren has a tear in his triceps and could be lost for the season.
The Jets are “Ship All Banged Up” as backup center Rob Turner suffered a broken leg and Joe McKnight suffered a concussion in the 20-16 loss to the Houston Texans. Steven asks Jeff if Mark Sanchez the guy and the guys disagree on the answer. They also discuss the issue of Ndamukong Suh and whether he is a dirty player or not.
Steven is impressed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is bound to take credit for Raheem Morris calling his team is Youngry. Mike Shanahan is at it again, this time swapping QBs as he said that John Beck will start Friday’s game at Indianapolis over Rex Grossman. Channing Crowder has some harsh words about QB Chad Henne and Steven agrees.
Plus, the 49ers bring in Daunte Culpepper for a work out and Lovie Smith and the Chicago Bears show a blatant disregard for the new kick-off rules.
Currently listening and can’t agree less in regards to Mark Sanchez. Pause podcast. Only 4 quarterbacks go to the Championship rounds every year. And he’s been there two years in a row. Ok, he isn’t the sole reason as to why they got there but I feel like it would be a biiiiig mistake to get rid of the guy who’s taken you this far. Its like getting rid of Sam Bradford because he hasnt got you into the playoffs. Or the Lions drafting a QB in the first round because they just can’t count on Stafford. Its not like they didn’t go to the Superbowl because of Sanchez; they were just overmatched. And by the way Manning hasn’t been to the championship game for a while now, should the Colts get rid of him. No because its more than just the quarterback.
And its not a situation like when the Bears went to the Superbowl with a jag at QB. The Jets rely on Sanchez and Sanchez relies on the Jets. And he shows up more often than not.

I heard Steven predict the Redskins to be one of four teams in the “Andrew Luck sweepstakes”, meaning, he thinks they’ll be one of the four worst teams in the NFL. He may well be correct, given the question marks they have, especially at QB, but I (obviously) think they’ll be better (closer to .500).
I won’t be sending hate email (or posts) Steven’s way because I do think there’s a chance the team could be horrid, but I do reserve the right to gently “remind” Steven of his comments should the Skins play better than he expects this year. And of course, I am open to him reminding me of his comments should he prove to be correct.
BTW, on Beck starting this week, all indications are that the Shanahan’s want Beck to be the guy, and had he not suffered a groin injury in practice leading up to last week’s game, I think Beck would have started last week. The fact that Grossman (and Clemons for that matter) looked decent running the offense still does not mean that Shanny wants to see Beck as much as possible, and I’m pretty sure it’s his job to lose. What I do like about what I saw Friday night (given that it was preseason and the Steelers were very disinterested) is that the offense could be set up in such a way that interchangeable QB’s may be possible. I do think the offensive line has improved greatly from last year, and that is why I am cautiously optimistic about this season.
