After beating up on the Indianapolis Colts last night, 34-21, the Buffalo Bills learned today that tight end Shawn Nelson has been suspended four games for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
The league announced the suspension on Friday and Nelson will miss the first four games of the season against Miami, Green Bay, New England and the New York Jets. Nelson is available to return to the team’s active roster on October 4th and can play in the following weekends game against Jacksonville.
This comes at a bad time for the Bills as fellow tight end Derek Schouman injured his knee in the preseason game against the Colts, along with Joe Klopfenstein already on the IR, that leaves the Bills with few options at the tight end position.
I don’t see what makes these players think that they can ‘beat the system’. They’re gunna get caught. It’s bound to happen. And then it’s only four games? I also think that Brian Cushing didn’t get a big enough suspension. A season-long punishment should be in effect, in my eyes. I mean, it should be no practice time, you can’t be with the team, etc. Because the lesson that is being taught to little kids is that if you get caught using roids, they will only have to sit out for four games, and then they will be right back out there on the field… So they’ll just keep doing it again and again!!!!!
I guess what I’m trying to say is, all these players that use performance enhancing substances should be punished much more severely because, not only are you cheating, but you are lying to the league and to your team, as well as setting a bad example for all the little kids.
