After months of speculation and hard nosed negotiations, the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins have pulled the trigger on the trade everyone knew was in the works.

KC sends QB Trent Green to Miami for a fifth round draft pick in 2008. That pick could become a fourth rounder should Green meet certain playing time requirements and other performance levels. All along, Miami had been offering a sixth-round choice and the Chiefs had demanded a fourth-round selection. The trade, which was confirmed by sources from both teams, represents a natural compromise.

So who got the better of this deal, Miami or KC? The chiefs will now hand the reigns of the offense to either Damon Huard or Brodie Croyle, while the Dolphins can use a veteran like Green to help them for a few years while their 2nd round draft pick, Jon Beck gets ready. The Chiefs also get some value for a QB they very likely would not be using anymore. So much for head coach Herm Edwards always trying to say, “Trent’s gonna be fine.”

This means that Miami will most likely be looking to move QB Daunte Culpepper, but with Daunte’s injuries, not many teams will be quick to deal for him. Now should Miami release him outright, Oakland, Chicago and possibly even Dallas might make room for Culpepper in a backup role.
