Plaxico Burress

Yet again in this early part of NFL training camps, another wide receiver has gone down with a season-ending injury. This time the plague hits the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Wide receiver Plaxico Burress has suffered a torn rotator cuff and it appears likely that it is a season-ending injury.

Steven’s take:
Burress was fighting to be the fourth or fifth wide receiver on the team, so it is not a huge loss for the Steelers. Where the Steelers will likely take a hit, is in the red-zone. Burress was going to come in handy when the team was close to the goal line as his height made him a perfect red-zone threat. With the departure of Mike Wallace via free agency to the Miami Dolphins, and now with Burress’ injury, the Steelers receiving corp will consist of Antonio Brown, Emmanuel Sanders and Jerricho Cotchery.

If the Steelers do not bring in another veteran, they will have to rely on a couple of rookies, Markus Wheaton and Justin Brown to fill the fourth and fifth spots.
