With the 2011 NFL’s opening week continuing there was one young player who made a historic impact. Panthers new quarterback and #1 overall draft pick, Cam Newton, sure is looking like an icon — after one game. His 422 yards are the most ever by an NFL rookie in an opening game. Can this continue? The guys discuss.
Two of the games most important players got big paydays just moments prior to taking the field Week 1. Adrian Peterson becomes the newest member of the $100 million club while Troy Polamalu gets an extension which should have him with the Black and Gold through the remainder of his career. Jeff reflects on the days when he had hair as epic as Troy’s. Steven questions the validity of the awesomeness of Jeff’s hair.
On September 12, the guys look back at the NFL’s excellent job of commemorating September 11, 2001. From the opening of the 9/11 memorial to the tributes at all the games, the League did what it does best… got it right!
Big injuries and big surprises round out today’s fix. From Steven Jackson, Arian Foster, Sam Bradford, Andy Dalton, and even a kicker (Nate Kaeding), the reality of injuries is impossible to escape. Speaking of surprises, the Bears make a big statement with their on field performance against Atlanta and the Bills (?) hang a 40 burger on the Arizona Cardinals. Nothing finer than to bake in a desert and kick the crap out of a helpless Cardinal. The guys finish by wondering if the Super Bowl loser curse has returned to Steel City USA.
