Head Coach Mike Shanahan has made some strange decisions with regards to his starting quarterback there in Washington. With no clear cut favorite, John Beck and Rex Grossman seemed destined to share the roll forever. Steven and Jeff question the dual quarterback approach and believe that a starter must be named immediately.
Another second round draft pick was lost for the season last night when Redskins DL Jarvis Jenkins tore his ACL and will undergo surgery today. He joins an all to long list of players from various teams who have also fallen to the 2011 second round jinx.
Hurricane Irene is on everyones minds and is now causing problems for the scheduling of football games. The Giants/Jets game this weekend will be moved up 5 hours to try and avoid the oncoming menace. Finally the guys reflect on their day with the New Orleans Saints yesterday at training camp in Oxnard.
I know the QB situation looks a mess, but I trust Shanny. He is known for taking random RB’s and getting 1,000 yard seasons out of them, perhaps his offense can work with interchangeable QB’s as well. When either guy has been under center, the offense has moved the ball and looked decent. Personally, I think Beck will be the guy week 1. I think Shanny’s dilemma was that Beck was hurt week 1 and the Steelers played poorly, so Rex looked great. Then the Colts are famous for not showing up in pre season so Beck looked good. So now, Shanny has one half of football to figure out who his QB should be. And with no guarantee of how long the Ravens would play their first defensive unit, giving each guy a quarter could have been a gamble had the Ravens pulled their starters after the first quarter. I feel confident the team will be improved over last season, the question is, how much better will the rest of the division be. Losing Jenkins last night was a huge blow, but if out O line stays healthy, the QB (whoever he is) should have protection and the running game should work.
