Steven and Jeff now look to the NFC to assess draft needs. The guys continue to discuss QB Ben Roethlisberger and the disclosure of the police reports that reveal the quarterback has some serious problems. Not to mention, the Pennsylvania State Trooper that is under investigation for his role in the incident. It wouldn’t be a show without a Good ‘Ole Boy to talk about and Browns RB Chris Jennings fits the bill this week.
On the last show, the guys talked about the possibility of WR Brandon Marshall being traded, and not only did get shipped to Miami, the Dolphins cast off WR Ted Ginn Jr. to the 49ers. Jeff and Steven back Jerry Jones for the video taken in secret, and Steven wonders how NFL Draft prospect, Ndamukong Suh, could pledge $2.6M to his alma mater Nebraska.
Plus Steven and Jeff take a look at what the teams in the NFC East and NFC North might try to pick up in the upcoming draft. Jeff seems to think the Lions still need lots of help and will only win a couple of games next year. Steven thinks that Bruce Allen and Mike Shanahan better not miss with the Redskins’ #4 pick in the draft since they don’t have many picks this year. And both guys agree that the Bears are limbo as far as the draft is concerned having given away so much for the QB Jay Cutler.
I am one of those type of people who refreshes iTunes every 15 minutes after I wake up on Tuesdays/Thursdays and seeing a new episode on a Sunday afternoon was a pleasant surprise.
Good show as always and I would like to add that in my opinion Favre looks natural in purple and McNabb looks awful in a Redskins uniform. Since I am a Vikings homer and see Grampa Favre’s 16 seasons in Green Bay as a prelude to the real show that might not be very surprising.
As a native of Houston I HATE Bud Adams for taking the Houston Oilers to Tennessee.
I just learned that Gains Adams is not a bust yet, but he needs to show something to avoid being a bust.
I guess Steven thinks the Bears are going to be fielding at least one zombie next year. Maybe Walter Payton will be making an appearance too.
Listening to the show right now… I disagree a bit with Steven saying that no single player is the face of the NFL. In my opinion, the face of the league would have to be someone who’s successful, a model citizen and have be able to crossover into the mainstream. The only four players I could find were Tom Brady, Tony Romo, Brett Favre and Peyton Manning. Even people who don’t follow football know these players, for various reasons. All four are mainstream celebrities, Tom Brady being probably the least well-known of the four. Favre, Manning and Brady have the longevity and success, and it comes down to Manning and Favre as the faces of the league. I have no doubt that if Favre raped some chick, Goodell would A) let Favre go off with a firm warning or B) give him the lightest punishment possible. It’s a fact of life.
It seems like you guys forgot, Gaines Adams passed away this January. It felt kind of painful to hear Steven talking about Gaines needing to step it up since he’s not with us anymore. I know it was just a mistake, but I just wanted to point it out.
Yes, I have already tweeted about that colossal mistake on my part. I felt extremely bad that I totally forgot about the passing of Adams. He was much too young.
Oh my apologies I didn’t check Twitter. It was a really bad mistake but it is a mistake.
the packers were names after the ACME packing company, not the oriental packing company
Just opened itunes and a suprise RandR started downloading. Love it. In Stevens defence i dont think enough was made about the passing of Gaines Adams, i know im in the UK but even NFL.com didnt really talk about it much, and if i didn’t go on the website that day i wouldn’t have known about it. I think alot more should have been made if it and the death of soccer players Mark Vivian Foe and Phil O’Donnell a few years ago to raise awareness of these heart problems.
@Preston627
I disagree with you regarding those players. Every player is expendable and the league will continue long after those players are dead. People will have said that many players were indispensable in the past, but those players left and the league goes on.
@ Steven
You mentioned Gaines Adams about the bucs defense. He’s dead and he was on the bears during his last season.
I disagree with Jeff about the Lions. They are not as terrible as they have been the past couple of years. On offense they now have Burleson to complement Calvin Johnson, and tight end Brandon Pettigrew should continue to improve. They do need help in the running game, which they should address in the draft at some point, and their defensive secondary needs improvement, but overall I think the Lions could surprise some people. I’m not saying they are playoff contenders or anything, but they have a lot more going on for them than some other teams, like the Bills.
@SSAGENT022 – see my comment 4 above yours! Keep up with the thread buddy!
Ben Rothlisberger (however you spell his name) is a massive Boob. He keeps getting in trouble. What a douche! I hope he gets traded to Oakland.
Man I pissed myself at the Steelers / Browns logo comment Jeff made :D
Speaking of which The Steelers logo is horrid. And they haven’t got logos in the endzones. CHEAP
So guys what do you think about the Sims trade for Philly. I believe that was the complete opposite of the McChoke trade. This is a low risk high reward. A 5th rounder for a starter or at worst a second stringer that pushes the firsts stringers.
@Little Lee – I don’t think it’s “cheap” that the Steelers don’t have their logos in the end zone. It’s practical. They share the stadium with the Pitt Panthers (college football) and on weekends when both have home games, it would be difficult to put the Panthers logo in on Saturday, and then try to remove it (it’s a grass field, so it would be either washing out the paint, or more likely, painting green over it) and then put down the Steelers logo.
On Ben Roethlisberger, not to treat any alleged sexual misconduct lightly, but putting that aside for a moment, I’d be concerned that he has no game. Here is a guy who is a pro athlete, playing for a marquee franchise, playing a highly visible position (QB), has a Super Bowl ring, and is nicknamed “BIG” Ben. And yet, he apparently has no game whatsoever with the ladies. If his best moves are calling the VIP hostess at a swanky hotel to help “fix” his TV and traveling several hundred miles from home to a small college town in Georgia with an entourage to hunt for sorority girls, I’d say he needs to work on his game some. He’s in Milledgeville, buying enough shots to inebriate the entire town…and after all this, he still can’t get any play. He has (supposedly) to have someone is his entourage practically drag a girl into a bathroom and even then she’s not interested. I’d have to say Plaxico Burress has better game than Ben, and Plax SHOT HIMSELF IN HIS OWN LEG WITH HIS OWN GUN in the club. Just to recap, shoot yourself in your own leg with your own gun in a club…still have better game than Ben Roethlisberger.
@Steven – re your show comments about the unfair treatment of Holmes vs Ben, I’d say this. I’m not disagreeing with you on this, but I’d point out the following, I believe Holmes violation was a second violation which automatically triggers the suspension, there was no “wiggle room” on the part of the NLF, 2nd offense = “x” punishment based on CBA agreement. And as it relates to Ben, his first “incident” in the hotel, was widely dismissed as the rantings of a crazy, gold digger. It wasn’t until this latest incident came about, that is now causing people to cast a new eye on that first situation.
So, instead of calling him King Kong Suh, I would think you could call him “A boy named suh” and then play Johnny Cash’s song whenever there is news about him.
Grate show guys
Now while nothing has been proved legally regarding Rothlisberger, I find it a bit hypocritical of the NFL that Mick Vick served 21 moths for his involvement in a dog-fighting ring, where as one of the NFL’s supposed superstars only gets banned for 6 games for alleged assault.
The women allegedly does not want the prosecuter to pursue the matter why?, somebody is hiding soomething
Apologies for the spelling
I daresay the thing something is hiding is a suitcase or bag stuffed with lots and lots of money and legal documents so the assaulted girl remains silent. Its awful to think of that celebrities and rich folks can get away with stuff because of their wealth and social status, yet that seems like the pervading culture in Britain and across the pond.
