Week 2 of the NFL is quickly becoming known as Upset Weekend. The Cardinals, Bears, Bengals, Texans, Giants, and Jets were all underdogs that won outright.
Jerry Jones opened Cowboys Stadium in style, and I was fortunate enough to be one of the 105,121 fans to attend the game.(image below) Unfortunately, the Dallas Cowboys came up two points short, losing to the division rival New York Giants.
The other team in New York talked the talk and walked the walk in Week 2. The Jets, talked smack all week about how they were going to hit Patriot QB Tom Brady. The defense delivered holding the New England Patriots without a TD for the first time since Dec. 10, 2006 when the Patriots failed to score a TD versus the Dolphins.
The Jets got after Brady, hurried him 15 times, knocked him down another five times and picked him off once. Brady finished the game 23 of 47 (48.9%) for 216 yards, 0 TDs and 1 INT and a 53.1 quarterback rating. Meanwhile Jets CB Darrelle Revis is showing he is one of the best corner backs in the league, as he limited Randy Moss to four catches for 24 yards.
The Saints go up to the “City of Brotherly Love” and put up 48 points on the Eagles. The Baltimore Ravens have found an offense and have scored over 30 points in back to back games. The Lions were actually up 10-0 on the Vikings before becoming, well, the Lions and Week 2 ends with nine teams having a perfect record.
I find it a little weird that after two weeks of play I can report that the Jets, Broncos and 49ers lead their respective divisions at 2-0.
The Good: Part 1
The Johnson and Johnson show was a smashing success in Nashville! In the same game, Houston at Tennessee, each team pulled out their Johnson’s and they were not afraid to use them! Texans WR Andre Johnson caught 10 passes for 149 yards and 2 TDs while the Titans RB Chris Johnson scored 3 TDs and amassed 284 total yards rushing and receiving. That’s BIG TIME!
The Good: Part 2
49ers RB Frank Gore had a monster game scoring on TD runs of 79 and 80 yards. Gore finished the game with 207 yards rushing and added another 39 yards receiving. Gore and the 49ers defense are the main reason the team is 2-0, in 1st place of the NFC West and putting me in charge of driving the 49ers bandwagon!
The Bad
QB Tony Romo followed his personal best game passing the ball last week with a case of Interceptionitis. The pandemic struck Dallas as they opened their spectacle of a stadium. Romo threw two bad passes and one ill-advised pass for a total of three interceptions in the Cowboys 33-31 loss to the Giants.
The Ugly
Starting the season 0-2 is almost like the kiss of death. Since the league moved to the current twelve-team playoff format, teams that start out 0-2 make the playoffs only fourteen percent of the time. After Week 2, there are nine such teams. The Lions, Rams, Browns, Buccaneers, Jaguars, Chiefs and Dolphins were expected to have a rough start. The Titans and Panthers, two division winners from last year, were not!
Welcome Steven, to the 49ers bandwagon! Why don’t you leave the Cowboys once and for all, and come join us full time!
Next game will be very interesting: 49ers at Minn
49ers = one of the best run games and one of the best run defenses.
Vikings = one of the best run games and one of the best run defenses.
It will come down to the QBs. Who will win? The old QB that is eager to throw INTs or the game manager?
Go Niners!!!
What a week!!From 13 and 3 to 9 and 7—yuck— ” How bout them COWBOYS ?????”–Looking for the ELLIS CURSE to kick in next week–GO BILLS
That stadium looks like a spaceship. Probably the one that took Jerry Jones here from his home planet.
Steven, the 49ers bandwagon has been rolling since Coach Singletary’s first game in charge!
Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride to the playoffs!
Maybe the Cowboys will get there next year ;)
I am not sure if the 9ers are the real deal.
Those 209 yards came mainly from two long rushes. Aside from that, the Seahawks held him pretty good in check.
Furthermore, the Hawks were without 2 of their starting LB’s (Hill out, Tatupu left the game early).
The 9ers had only one drive with good 3rd down percentage (3of4). Other than that, the Seahawks looked good on third down.
What I wanna say: the hawks are not a too good team, they lost their qb at halftime and were not at full strengt in the o-line and at LB. So I would be very careful to see the 9ers as the team people tend to do over the last days.
Great blog again this week Mr Miranda. Can’t wait for Sunday! With the 49ers and the Vikings both 2-0 & going head to head.
Peterson vs Gore aka Goliath vs Goliath
“We go out and we hit em in the mouth”
And Week 2 with The Johnson and Johnson Show for the Titans and Texans. Watched that game with the Die Hard Special Agent Johnson’s constantly on my mind!
Hi Steven,
Loving the blogs to compliment the shows… Great picture and from listening to the show sounds like you both had a great time. Visiting the “Jerry-Dome” is now on my lists to do the next time we come over to the States…
Mark
Nice read Steven, the stadium looks amazing, from a tv and photo view. On Five they were putting landmarks against so you can see the size of it. Lay the Empire State building down next to it, and Empire is only a bit bigger. Crazy man!
The ugly, where were my Pats? Or Brady, I am sorry but no TD’s and losing like that. It was horrible. Just hope that getting this loss out the way helps teh Pats get back to form.
Enjoying the show- and you can’t be on the 49ers bandwagon if you are a Cowboy fan. Its like oil and water. But I am finally loving watching my team after 7 years of people in New England saying “why are you a niner fan?”
And I have to agree with you about Brady- though it pains me- there is something not right. Coach and Tom keep saying the Galloway is picking up the offense, which may be true, and Brady looks out of sync with everyone. I’m not chicken little or anything- not even nervous, just confused. They will rally though and find a way to win the division.
Great picture Steven, looking svelt, glad you don’t have a Romo jersey. :)
Enjoyed the show, way to tough it out with the strained vocal cords.
Found your show this week via iTunes. It’s really great that you guys exist because for us swedes that love american football – we can only get the Superbowl show… Life kind of sucks for us. I know.
Keep up the good job and… Go Fins!
Lots of fun stuff this year–blog, Sunday show, OC Register, QBKilla singing your praises on Twitter, we even get a show donor page. The way you’re going, if JJ can hold out a bit you’ll be bidding on the stadium naming rights.
I’m sure you had a great time in Dallas, we did too (except for the outcome; yes, Romo was UGLY). The odd thing about that stadium, fantastic as it is, is that it doesn’t really have a scoreboard. Just a couple of small displays. You have to look for it. A 7-1/2 story video board, and they can’t carve out a little corner to tell you what quarter it is and how many TOs are left?
Don’t talk like that about Brady!
Well, I know you’re right but I’m not ready for it yet, I need to believe he’s still that same old Brady that finds Moss with his eyes closed. Give it a week or 2.
