Week 5 is in the books, and the guys suffer their worst week of picks since the inception of the show. Jeff felt he needed to write an article to defend his picks this week, while Steven says, just move on and let’s get to next week! The guys are joined by San Francisco 49ers insider Matt Maiocco of Comcast SportsNet Bay Area and quickly becomes the shows NFL BMOC Bay Area or the Cable Guy. Matt talks about the 49ers recent struggles, the bay area fans finally turning on QB Alex Smith and chanting for David Carr and Steven asks if Mike Singletary is on the hot seat. The guys then take a look at the NFL News, where Steven once again says he would never trade with Bill Belichick and the Patriots, as the Patriots acquire WR Deion Branch from Seattle for a 4th round pick. Why would the Seahawks make that move right now? The guys talk about the latest surrounding Brett Favre and a report that surfaced from a website that he send inappropriate texts and lewd photos to Jets sideline reporter Jenn Sterger a few years back. Jeff questions Sterger’s new stance while Steven questions the timing of this report. The guys also talk about all the injuries that hit the Packers this week, as Aaron Rodgers gets concussed and TE Jermichael Finley is out three to six weeks with a torn meniscus.
The guys end the show by going recapping the 14 games of Week 5, and admit that nobody really knows anything about this crazy, NFL season. The excitment comes from the uncertainty of which teams will step it up as the season progresses. Jeff is the smartest man alive as the Lions whip up on the Rams and Steven is left to lament his change of heart on Da Bears!
I was bemoaning my picks this weekend, but coming out with 8 actually looks pretty good considering how others did. I’m kicking myself because I didn’t have the guts to take Tennessee over Dallas, and I did struggle with that game all week.
I’m one back of Steven, and apparently tied with Jeff even though I thought I had a one game lead on him.
The only solice for my picks is that everyone across the board did badly. Me and my Friends did badly, the pros did badly. the only people to do well were people with terrible scores because they are cardinal/raiders homers. I scraped 7-7 with a last minute change to the redskins. Was nice to hear Jeff and Steven were as dumbfounded as me.
I think it is about time to say the saints were a one hit wonder
@DCSportsfan25 – good effort on 8 wins, I only got 6 this week (and I see we are level). Still, any week I do better than Steven is a good one! I have noticed the traditional mis-match in Jeff’s scores as well, and I’m taking the Pigskin Pick ‘Em as the true score, because then we are ahead of him!! I’m pretty sure I heard on a show early this season that’s where the ‘official’ changes would be made….
Steven have you considered that maybe the saints talisman and best player Drew Brees has been Hit right round the head with the Madden Curse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Better Players have been taken down by it maybe he is just the next casualty.
Honestly, I would never allow EA Sports to put me on the Madden Cover. It is just scary.
I somehow went 10-4 with my picks this week. Unfortunately, I too was smacked for benching Ray Rice for the first time this year. Let’s just say I won’t do it again.
@ Kaleb – wow man, 10 wins was pretty outstanding considering how everyone else struggled this weekend. I always take the Skins no matter what, so when they pull off upsets it helps me. Other than that, I got lucky with the Bears and Lions, and as I mentioned earlier, really considered taking Tennessee, but I thought maybe Dallas had turned a corner before their bye.

Not sure where Jeff changed a game that he didn’t update the Pick Em site, but I have noticed he stopped playing the spread challenge, and seems to just be competing in no – spread. I am willing to give Jeff some slight leeway because they are doing quite a bit of traveling this season that I don’t think they expected to be doing. That being said, hopefully Jeff will re-commit to ensuring his picks “of record” are reflected on Pick ‘Em. As I mentioned above, since I always pick Washington, how they fare determines how I do to some degree, conversely, if Steven continues to stick with Dallas, and if they continue to under perform, that might make it easier to keep pace with him.
Did I completely miss it, or did they not recap Lions vs Cardinals. Lions are my team and I was looking forward to that recap.
@Dave, if you were looking for Lions vs Cardinals then yes, you missed it because the Lions played the Rams and the Cardinals played the Saints. And yes, we did talk about both those games. Jeff wanted to play the Roar sound for the Lions but I did not want to because after all, they only beat the Rams.
I know that people have been talking about brees being hit by the madden cure. I think it has more to do with the injuries to bush and Tomas and don’t forget about shockey… Where has he been for the past 3 games.
I say it has nothing to do with any kind of curse It is just the simple fact that teams are coming up with better game plans and the saints are not A’s good A’s they seemed to be last season
Steven, you and Jeff talked about how you made it the challenge game, and you said you’d talk about the game later, in the recap section. But you never did actually recap the game, and it really upset me. This was Detroit’s greatest win since the Wayne Fontes era, and I was looking forward to hearing you guys’ perspective on it, and you totally skipped it. Wednesday Thursday Friday?

@DC – it was Week 1, when they were on the road in New York – Jeff was 8-8 on Pigskin Pick ’em and 9-7 on here. But, hey, I travel too, so I’m sticking with the published picks…while they are behind!!
Some amazing picks at the top of that “table” – I’ve really enjoyed the pro guests on the shows, but maybe some of the listeners making the great picks should also get invited on. That will never be me, of course!
