Zach Mettenberger Set to Start

NFL Insider Ian Rapoport tweeted that the Tennessee Titans are planning to start rookie QB Zach Mettenberger at quarterback this weekend against the Houston Texans.

That tweet came out after it was reported by The Tennessean that Mettenberger would be getting the start.

Steven’s Take:
It appears that Jake Locker‘s time in Tennessee has come to an end. Locker was the No. 8 overall draft pick for the Titans in 2011 so the team must feel that it is time to move on. Marc Sessler reported on NFL.com that the Titans would not pick up Locker’s fifth-year option. Clearly they don’t feel Locker is worth the almost $15 million the team would owe Locker in 2015.

Locker could not stay healthy and was often sporadic when he was on the field. The Titans feel that they need to evaluate Mettenberger this season since they do not believe Charlie Whitehurst is the answer at quarterback. With the team clearly not in position to make a run at the playoffs, this is the time for them to see what they have in the sixth-round pick from LSU. Perhaps the Titans feel they have a Tom Brady in the making?
