In part 3 of 4, Steven and Jeff take a look at the NFC East and NFC North, talking Cowboys, Giants, Eagles, Redskins, Bears, Lions, Packers and Vikings.
In NFL News, the guys wonder what the Titans are doing placing RB Chris Johnson in the Reserved/Did Not Show list instead of signing him to a huge contact. Plus Bengals RB Cedric Benson will serve 20 days in a Texas Jail starting in October forcing him to miss a couple of Bengals games.
When looking at the East, Jeff surprisingly has the Cowboys winning the division and the Eagles in second. Jeff cannot believe the Eagles hype and is not sure they even make the playoffs. Jeff and Steven agree that the Giants and Redskins will bring up the rear.
In the North, both guys have the Packers on top and Steven guarantees that not only will the Bears not win the division this year, they will not even make the playoffs. The guys disagree on how many wins the Lions and Vikings will get. Steven is high on the Vikings and low on the Lions while Jeff has it the other way around.
I can’t argue that not having chosen a QB by now may not be the best way to go, but they’ve both looked decent at running the offense, so I’ll feel ok with whomever is out there against the Giants week 1. If the offensive line can stay healthy (looking much improved over last year, but no depth) and if our defensive backfield can be decent (LaRon Landry hurt all of pre season) I think the Skins could surprise some folks. The team is improved over last year (debating McNabb at QB notwithstanding, he’s a good QB, but he wasn’t good last year), and last year we managed to win 6. I do think that the NFC East will be a much tougher division than it has been in a few years.f
If Torain comes back healthy (broken hand) and Hightower continues to impress, the running game could help open up the offense. Steven mentioned Stallworth as a receiving threat, talk is, he may be cut as the Skins have some good young receivers in camp, and if they want to keep kick/punt return specialist Brandon Banks, they’ll most likely have to cut Stallworth. That leaves Moss, Armstrong, Terrance Austin (has looked very good in preseason) Jabber Gaffney and rookies Hankerson (dropping balls, but young enough to stick with) and Niles Paul. Also Nebraska rookie Roy Helu out of the backfield could see quite a few carries. And while Pro Bowl TE Chris Cooley has been out all pre season, Fred Davis has slimmed down, and has looked very good thus far.
I became a show donor about a week ago, should I be expecting an email? That spreadsheet sounds cool.
regarding the spreadsheet, awesome, i spent hours yesterday looking for a similar spreadsheet, superb.
Great show guys. Is there any way we can get our hands on that awesome spreadsheet?
@SiriusBomber – that spreadsheet is only available to show donors and an email was sent out them last night. If you are one, and did not get the email, let us know and we will rectify the problem. Thanks!
